A comprehensive collection of valuable information here. Well done. I wonder if Symbian made the S5 (Epoc) file type specifications public....then perhaps file converters would be more readily available ? Best Regards, Ray Mayhew

Your page is great! Best (most comprehensive) I've found so far, on making connections between a Mac and Psion 5mx/Revo/etc. After seeing your page I decided to try the Trafic S5 by Philippe Gramel but was stuck at the stage of installing software on the Mac side (I think I got the installation on the Revo side done OK). I wonder if you could help me to solve why I'm stuck? I got the error "An exception of class OutOfBounds Exception was not handled. The application must be shut down." Also in my Trafic S5 English package my read-me/documentation file was in French--was it the same case in yours? any help appreciated....I have contacted the author as well but no reply yet. regards

I have to say this is an excellent page. Having searched long and hard for this kind of info for a mac psion user this page is a god send ! Many thanks.

Thanks for the summary! I am one of the Mac users having problems. They seem to be linked to the data structure and the way the Mac administers documents. Besides leaving several invisible and visible folders and docs on a CF, the Mac gets angry if u delete them and kills the whole data structure. Occasionally a CF must be reformatted several times in the Mac (Win format, of course) before it can be successfully reformatted on the Psion. I suppose u'd need to be a programmer to understand what's wrong and how to bend it. It seems there is a solution ( http://www.windhager.de/~mattes/epocemx/) - Mr. EM is a scientist &programmer I gather. So I don't understand what he offers there. Any programmer willing to bother? best and thanks again, vlad

Glad I found your page. I moved to MacOSX on an iMac and really miss PSiWin. I tried the Belkin Serial to USB adapter but it did not work with Virtual PC5 at all - the Psion was never recognised. I also suffered from CF Card corruption between Psion & Mac (although PC seems fine) - using the Lacie Hexa Media Drive. Now I use an old laptop with Win98 and PsiWIn on it. Thanks for a really comprehensive look at Mac problems for the Psion. For me the 5MX is the ultimate tool. My HP Journada 545 Pocket PC (tablet) only has a colour screen going for it. I Sync with WIn98 Outlook97 with the 5MX then do the same with the HP545. Seems to work OK. But I'd love to import data into Office X. Hope some of these details might be of use to you. Further to your Mac Psion CF swapping problem - I have a similar problem with Iomega ZIP 100 disks (formated for Win). The Mac likes to put extra folders on the disk and isn't so robust at mounting and unmounting the disk. Apple seem to know of the problem but it is one weakness of OSX. Mac OS9 seems better at this sort of activity somehow. I would advise anyone to be wary of Mac/ Win/ Psion disk swapping until we know a solution. Great page - Please keep it up!

Dear Sir! I just bought a 2nd hand Ericsson MC218 (PSION serie 5) and for what I understand I need a cable (RS-232) to connect it to my PS. Where can I achive this cable? (I have tryed to found it in severel PC-shops around in Sweden without success!) I´m living in Barcelona (Spain) but I also have a part time living in Gothenburg (Sweden)! Would you be able to help me? Sincerely Anders...

Your page is very interesting. I have been using a Psion 5mx for a long time and am about to migrate from my PC to an Apple Powerbook. So I will be searching for a mechanism to back-up my Psion files on the Mac as PsiWin is a non-starter - unless of course Virtual PC will allow me to run PsiWin on the Mac. Has anybody tried this successfully to your or any of your readers knowledge? I will read your page carefully for possible solutions if Virtual PC is a non-starter.

PsiWin should work with VPC, although I haven't tested the latest VPC under MacOSX. If making backups is the only issue then I would advise you to use a CF-card /compact USB-cardreader/ Psion backup software combination (e.g. Backup by Ralph Sprenger): extremely fast and (under OSX) >>very<< reliable. Cheers, Martin

Wat een geweldige webpagina. Ik ga proberen mijn Psion 7 en een ibook te verbinden en ga eerst op zoek naar het verbindingsstuk waar je zo duidelijk over schrijft. Enorm bedankt tot dusver! Boudewijn

this is a great webpage. i wish i had discovered it before. I have a g5 iMac and a Psion 5mxthe original DIN 8-pin to serial cable a Keyspan serial to USB adaptor The problem is that I cannot start the link between the Mac and the 5mx. After reading your website, I suspect the problem is permanent since the Mac boots up in OS X and not in OS Classic. Is there any way round this? nick

Nicholas Law nicholas.law@wanadoo.es Sun Jul 3 13:24:33 2005

I don't know if you are still updating this page, but async 1.15 synchronises iCal and the Psion 5mx agenda. Nick.

Zeer tevreden. Maar men vertelde me dat psion nederland failliet is.Is dat zo? Zo niet, waar vind ik in Noord Nederland een verkoop punt? Wewrkt dec 5 serie ook op zonne energie? De batterijen is het enige nadeel

peter anon@privacy.net Fri Aug 26 03:15:43 2005

Thank you very much for the resources! That explains why neither I nor the Genius at the Apple Store could get MacConnect working on my G4 Powerbook. Now to try some of the other options you've pointed out. Incidentally, are you able to share your source for the rumour of the PsyXpda?

Martin Fri Sep 9 14:53:09 2005

Got it from PDAtotaal.info. POS has been announcing the PsiX PDA for a few months now. It would be nice if they really will start the delivery of these models soon. It's essentially a classic 5MX: no technology updates (like Bluetooth) seem to be made. I cannot imaging that serious companies like POS can afford a hoax.

Wonderful page, thanks. Just discovered the joys of Macs so finding out how to backup my 5mx is invaluable. So I have MacConnect 1.2 what is the best cable to use?

Thank you for your efforts to inform others how to reconnect their Psion computers with MacOS X. I hope that most of this will apply to my Psion 7 too. Fortunately I still have all the old cables and such, now to get the software.

Hi, I writing from Shanghai, China. I found your page very helpful, I don't own a Psion but I just got a old palm and I need some help. I just have a little question about the Wiring scheme of Psion - Macintosh serial adapter cable picture (fig 2 of your page), is this wiring the same like an original Mac serial adapter or you changed some wires to make it work with the Psion? I am trying to make a mac serial adapter myself but I have no idea about the wiring Thenks for your time Best Regards... Luis
